In this issue:
Conditioning the Body to Mind
As the age of the physically superior athlete becomes more finely tuned, the extraordinary displays of athleticism, as witnessed in all sports from tennis to golf, have become almost common place in the eyes of experts and laymen alike. For years science has been trying to make ‘em faster, stronger, better. More mass has meant more mass collisions, more testosterone, and thus more mass media coverage. The shear novelty of the size of these young men is enough to sell tickets to the average sports fan. However the flip side is that the more mass the more responsibility. The more mass the more understanding and self awareness required to navigate that new super sized frame. The more mass the more maintenance required and subsequently the more self mastery necessary to stay sharper, longer.
This is not meant to take anything away from an athlete who has pushed him/her self to accomplish these extraordinary feats. On the contrary, it is this very ability to display superior mental strength in pursuit of the physique and all the accoutrements ascribed to the physically, well conditioned athlete, that is an indicator of further potential. To undertake any endeavor requires the proper amount of desire. This desire serves as fuel for the will as it seeks to create the most favorable conditions in which to manifest whatever is desired. The athletic body is a metaphor for what can be accomplished with desire, will and vision on a physical level. That same athlete who has demonstrated, on a supreme level, the ability to manifest the body of a God, in most cases, finds it mentally challenging to transfer that same focus and tenacity of purpose over to building the muscle of proactive thinking, outside of a sports context.
This can be done, quite efficiently, through repetitive visualization techniques. An athlete who utilizes these techniques helps to expand their brains’ ability to process on a par consistent with their body’s ability to perform advanced athletic feats. Once this occurs the mind takes its place as the dominant faculty. Consequently, physical movement becomes more deliberate and concentrated. The upside of this type of focus is that the same mind which has been sharpened for use in the sports context is the same mind that makes proactive constructive decisions in the personal context. As for the downside, there is none.
Young men so trained, exhibit calm under pressure because of their knowledge, understanding and effective use of various mental techniques such as “neuro-linguistic programming”. This mental power tool features certain words of power that the student/athletes “charge” emotionally (A process which involves strategically fusing selective memories to words). Once spoken or thought of, the power word rapidly connects them to the same state of confidence contained in the associated memory. These young men will be calmer in victory, due to a higher level of confidence, and will tend to show more sportsmanship like tendencies because of a higher state of self awareness and security, regarding their own abilities.
Test scores rise in the face of a more disciplined mind. As focus is literally taught through virtual role playing techniques, which include holding a visual image for graduated lengths of time, the probability of learning higher math concepts and reading comprehension becomes greater. This means higher incidences of passing the SAT and other standardized tests. Not only are the tools that facilitate this higher sense of self through positive branding to be acknowledged as highly effective, but the lens that merges the concept of expanding ones mental capacity simultaneously, in multiple areas of life, is the true masterpiece. This reflects a very high level of conscious critical thinking which, by rule, creates the facility while instilling within the student/athlete the agency of a problem solving approach to all perceived tasks or obstacles.
More brain power, in this case, can be devoted to gaining an immediate solution that attempts to alleviate the perceived obstacle as opposed to one in which the emotional encroachment upon the mind is creating a reaction lag by prohibiting it from immediately thinking of how best to solve the problem. This type of consistent ability to perceive “problem solving” as something within ones comfort zone leads to a stronger sense of recognition and expectation of quality, regarding personal standards and parameters. The product is inevitably a well rounded, conscientious, proactively motivated human with a winning attitude.
Imagine the future success stories of athletes becoming successful after sports or athletes who never made it to the pros that used their education to gain access to a life of financial stability and mental well being. The alternative is and has been far too tragic and much too commonplace. Its time for a new approach to building the ultimate athlete-One that fortifies the body and the mind, as exemplified through quality thoughts that turn to quality deeds or through the mere body language of a confident, capable scholar/ athlete. Its time for programs like 3-D
If a playbook is merely a collection of options/plans for any given situation, then the athlete needs to be given the awareness that those plans/plays are the culmination of preparation and forethought. Finally the athlete should be taught that this understanding carries with it the responsibility of creating your own playbook for life situations. In essence, the athlete needs to know that in life, plans/plays are essential but are merely options they have created through forethought and vision which, if followed with focus and discipline, will absolutely facilitate achievement of the desired object of the plan- just like in the game. An understanding such as this gained by the athlete is a tool that outlives those outstanding physical attributes, giving the athlete the ability to live a life of quality and stability for the remainder of their days on Earth.
If you agree that such a program is worthy of expanding to reach more aspiring athletes please feel free to make a donation to 3-D Sports Academy. See contact info for e-mail address.
